5 Panel Cap vs. 6 Panel Cap - What is the Difference?

5 Panel Cap vs. 6 Panel Cap - What is the Difference?

The main difference between a 5 panel hat and 6 panel hat is the number of panels. A 5 panel hat has 5 panels and a 6 panel has 6 panels. For reference, a panel is a triangular piece of fabric (usually cotton or acrylic), stitched together along with other panels to form the crown of a cap or hat (rounded part worn on head). A 5 panel cap has 2 back panels, 1 panel on each side (total of 2), and 1 front panel. A 6 panel cap has 2 back panels, 1 panel on each side (total of 2), and 2 front panels.

The 5 panel cap has a larger front panel without a seam or stitching, which is sometimes preferred for screenprinting or heat transfer. A 6 panel cap has 2 front panels, which are stitched together and there is a seam. 6 panels caps are a more traditional, common cap, but the 5 panel caps are still popular today, especially the foam trucker style.
