New Era Cap is one of the world's largest headwear companies and holds over 500 different licenses with major sports leagues such as NFL, MLB, NBA, MLS, and NCAA collegiate teams. New Era makes licensed hats for the retail market and also for on-field players. In recent years, New Era has expanded into the licensed apparel market and has done collaborations with popular brands and influencers.
As of June 2024, New Era is privately owned by the original founding family, the Kochs, and ACON Investments owns a significant minority stake. ACON Investments is a private equity firm based out of Washington, D.C. The MLB, NFL, and NBA also hold minority stakes in New Era. New Era Cap is currently led by Chris Koch, CEO, who is the fourth-generation of the founding family.
As of 2024, New Era is in the process of preparing for an initial public offering (IPO), which could value the company at $4 billion to $5 billion.
