What is the Difference between MAP and MSRP? MSRP vs. MAP
MAP stands for minimum advertised price, while MSRP stands for manufacturer's suggested retail price. While MSRP is a suggested price by the manufacturer to sell products at retail, MAP is a policy designed to set a minimum price at which retailers and stores cannot advertise products below. For products with a minimum advertised price, retailers and stores are limited in their advertising and marketing of these products and cannot directly or indirectly offer discounts or pricing below the MAP (at least advertised). For products with a manufacturer's suggested retail price, retailers and stores are not limited and may advertise these products at prices lower than MSRP with no consequences.
In countries and areas where MAP policies are legal, manufacturers can enforce the minimum advertised price, while MSRP is only a suggested price and retailers and stores do not have any obligation to follow.
